Write for us
Share your experience with the community.
Sofa Lounge stories are written by real people living the experience. If you've navigated something worth sharing — a challenge, a breakthrough, a hard-earned lesson — we want to publish it.
What we publish
Four formats
Your personal story — how you got here, what you've built, what you've learned.
Something useful you figured out — banking, visas, apps, freelancing, culture.
A perspective, a take, something you feel strongly about regarding life in China.
A project, a body of work, or a creative journey worth sharing with the community.
Editorial guidelines
What we look for
Write in your own voice
First person, honest, direct. No corporate tone.
Be specific
Concrete details and real experiences beat vague advice every time.
Minimum 400 words
Enough to be genuinely useful. No maximum — say what needs to be said.
No self-promotion
Mentioning your work is fine. Making it an ad is not.
English only (for now)
We'll expand to other languages as the community grows.
